Service Technician - Full Time

Nelson’s Bus Service is seeking a qualified Service Technician to join its growing organization.

Duties Include:

• Pre-delivery inspections and setup, inspecting body, frame and electrical, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing to specifications.
• Regular maintenance on existing fleet such as repairing and installing parts, seats, panels, leaks, etc.
• Learning new technical information and techniques in formal training sessions.

Education / Experience:

• Two year technical diploma in an Automotive Technology related field plus one (1) year hands-on related work experience or equivalent combination of related work experience and formal education in a related skilled trade.
• Diesel truck or bus experience is preferred, but we will train if all other requirements are met.
• Proficiency in reading wiring diagrams.
• Electrical / electronic diagnostic experience.
• Retrieval of trouble codes and ability to follow proper diagnostic tree.

License, Registrations, or Certifications:

• Current ASE certifications and a valid Wisconsin Commercial Drivers license are ideal.
• The following certifications are preferred and may be obtained during the course of employment if other requirements are met: Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License with School bus, Passenger and Air Brake endorsements; ASE School Bus Certification; CAT, Cummins, Mercedes Mid Range Certification.
• Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license as travel in our service area will be required.

Computer or Technology Skills:

• Must have PC skills including: Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Internet.
• Ability to operate office equipment (copier, fax, printers); video and voice communication equipment.

Mechanical Skills:

• General mechanical skills including basic hand tools, power tools and air tools, and multimeter.

Math Ability:

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.

Work Hours:

• Regular hours are Monday thru Friday 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM but must be flexible to deal with work schedule changes due to unexpected events.
